Tilbury Fort - The Thames by UK Fish Slayer

In years gone by Tilbury has been a very good mark in the winter to find better sized Cod/codling and winter fishing is still definitely worth a go to try and find one of these now elusive piggies, Summertime sees very good bass potential with some very big fish into double figures taken from here over the years.

Species - Bass, Cod, Whiting, Flounder, Eels, Sole, Pouting.

You will be fishing over mixed ground from the wall into deeper water and at times faster flowing tides, leads ranging from 5oz through to 7oz's should cover all bases. There are a few snags and the odd loss of gear is to be expected, its not considered a terribly snaggy mark.

If fishing during the winter months one rod setup with a pennel pulley rig with 4/0 hooks, baited up with whole squid and lug is definitely the way to go to target a Cod, a second rod with a two hook scratching rig on size 1/0 hooks baited with worm tipped fish baits will keep you very busy with the whiting.

Its an idea to push both rods out to stay clear of the snags that are closer to the wall.

Summer fishing can throw up some very good bass at Tilbury and once again its advisable to fish one rod on larger baits of whole squid or king rag worm on a pulley rig to try to pick one of these big girls up.

Using a second rod on a scratching rig with small hooks baited with worm will help to find Flounder, Bass and if you're lucky a nice Sole.
