Do NOT get tempted to venture out onto the mud at low water as it is soft and dangerous.
Species - Flounder, Bass, Eels, Mullet and Sole.
Rainham offers some excellent Flounder fishing in the colder months with multiple fish per session possible, good Bass can be taken at times in the summer along with the odd Sole and if you are willing to put the effort and time in some nice mullet can be found throughout the late spring/summer and autumn.

Fishing at Rainham is generally better scaled down to scratching type setups with 2 or three hook rigs with size 2 or 4 hooks baited with worm working well for most fish in front of you, maddies are king of the worm baits if you can get them in this area.
Fishing is over the high water with 2.5hrs - 3hrs either side of the tide favoured, fish can be taken at any stage of this period as long as you have water in front of you to hit into.
5oz leads should be enough to get your baits out there and two rods at varying distances is always a good idea, never neglect a rod in short as this will often sort out a good Bass.

Fishing is over mud flats and clear ground with only few snags.
If you're looking for a bit of mullet action you should head towards the marshes and fish greatly scaled down hooks (size 6 or 8) with light hook lengths and small 1-2 oz leads on a running paternoster and a quiver style rod setup with reel to suit, bread as bait with mushed bread ground bait in close may get you a few bites but like all mullet fishing this needs to be a time invested effort and there are no guarantees, the mullet here are sometimes taken on maddies also.
