Bog Hall Rocks - Northumb by Darren Skinner

We get a lot of cod in the north east area and although these are definitely the main target fish, it is also possible to pick up the odd Bass, Pollock, Coalfish, along with the usual Dog fish, Pouting and pin Whiting.

The whiting can prove to be nothing but a pain at times, the odd very occasional conger eel sometimes turns up but not too many get landed with the odd double over the years.

Best time to fish is October to February for the Cod, although it does seem the fishing for some reason always slows down in December and then picks back up.

With general temperatures seemingly getting warmer each year the typical cod fishing hasn't been as good a years gone by but there are still always a few decent fish to shoot for.

The best baits are cart wings, coral sticks, bluey, blacks, yellow tails, squid and peeler crab, with all of these proving to be deadly at certain times of the year.

Bog Hall Rocks is one of my all time favourite marks, it's an exciting mark to fish as you just don't know what is lurking about that old coal beach! I would certainly consider it as one of my "go to" marks.

A few additional things to consider- it is wader mark venue as you will have to walk into the water to get onto the mark 3 hours before low, you get max 2 hours into the flood then off as you don't want to be cut off.
